Garry Norman Profile
From the day he could walk, Garry has been around horses thanks to his father and grandfather who were involved in racing across all three codes - gallops, trotting and greyhounds. His family home was always full of racing banter and the odd racehorse, trotter or greyhound in the backyard. He soon found himself spending every spare moment at the stables learning and listening to begin crafting his horsemanship skills.
His late teens seen him learning to drive trotters and also show thoroughbreds in lead class which later fuelled his desire to concentrate more of his time on the thoroughbred over the standardbred.
The early 90' saw Garry join the Newcastle Jockey Club stewards as an observer which continued for 12 months before the desire to obtain his own trainer's licence had to be answered.
After being granted his licence he went about building his team to around a dozen horses and trained on course at Broadmeadow Racecourse. Known for taking on horses that other trainers may have struggled with, Garry scored a huge upset win when his horse call SWEET MUSTARD scored at Gosford at the amazing odds of 100-1 and paid a massive $138.00 on the tote.
Garry enjoys the challenge each horse presents and believes they all have their own personality and likes to tailor specific programmes for each. His hands on approach to doing everything around the stables gets him closer to what makes each horse tick and his attention to detail helps make it all come together.
He encourages you to give him a call if you have a horse looking for a change of environment or a young horse looking to be educated and put through its paces.
